From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.
